Beachcomber Resorts, the best hotels for families in Mauritius

Really all-inclusive family vacations: accommodations, restaurants, kids' clubs, and lots of land and water sports

By Sut-Mie Guibert

Anyone who only thinks of Mauritius as a romantic honeymoon destination is completely wrong (in the shape of the island, by the way!) With its crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean, lots of nature and a very mixed and rich culture, Mauritius offers a range of programs that will fill the memories of young and old. The destination also offers a wide variety of accommodations, and among them, the pioneering and elegant Beachcomber Resorts chain built the first hotel on the island in 1952 and today has no less than 8 hotels with services and comfort for everyone, whether you are traveling with a baby, a child or teenager.

A PARADISE FOR FAMILIES

With a huge know-how in hospitality and services, the Beachcomber chain has cozy accommodations for all sizes of families: adjoining rooms, duplex suites and even family apartments or private villas with up to 4 bedrooms and concierge service. There is plenty of room for large families.

So that the family can really enjoy a stress-free and practical vacation, ALL Beachcomber hotels offer all-inclusive formulas, with food, kids club, teen club and activities. At the group’s 4-star hotels, Shandrani, Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia, the all-inclusive package is interchangeable: you can have lunch or dinner in one of them, if you want to change the landscape and environment.

Highlight for the huge variety of land and water sports that are fully included: golf, tennis, water skiing, SUP, snorkeling and even diving lessons! Tours are also part of this, such as getting to know the local culture in the vibrant markets of the capital Port Louis or taking an unforgettable boat trip to see dolphins.

The fantastic kids’ clubs (from 3 to 11 years old) full of activities are also included with highly trained monitors. In addition to the usual spaces and games, children are very interested in the proposed workshops where, every day, there is a different adventure:

Be Creative: creation workshops, DIY (do it yourself), drawing, exhibition of works.
Be Together: children’s mini shows, where parents are invited.
Be Sporty: sports activities (initiation to nautical skiing or golf), dance, treasure hunt, games like in the Olympics.
Be Eco-friendly: activities related to the environment, recycling, the vegetable garden and the marine environment.
Be Local: picnics with Mauritian games or stories about the dodo, the island’s mascot bird, which is now extinct.

Smaller children can also participate but must be accompanied by an adult. If parents want to take advantage of this time to enjoy the SPA or relax, babysitters can be hired separately.

Teenagers aged 12 to 17 also have their own fun-filled activity program, free land and water sports, ideal for making new friends.

In addition to all these attentions, another thing that shows the family friendly spirit of the chain is that Beachcomber also takes care of the family budget: in addition to being a total all-inclusive (which makes budget forecasting easier), children do not pay meals up to 11 years old and teenagers pay child price up to 17 years old.

4 INTERCHANGEABLE HOTELS WITH DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS AND LOCATIONS

The Shandrani Beachcomber Resort, 4 stars, is in the southeast of the island, close to the airport, and with the advantage of being in front of the Blue Bay marine park, inserted in a coconut grove with 3 beaches. Ideal for active and sporty families who enjoy Beach Club environments with free access to an excellent nautical ski school.

The 4-star Mauricia Beachcomber, in the north of the island, overlooks the Bay and is close to the lively village of Grand Baie, with restaurants, bars and boutiques. Ideal for young families looking for entertainment. For large families, Mauricia has the advantage of offering 2-bedroom apartments, lofts and even villas with private pools.

Across the Bay and in a historic location is the 4-star Cannonier Beachcomber. In addition to all the usual structure, it has a diving center and trains adults and children from 10 years old for PADI certification. Here too, the resort offers duplex suites or 2-bedroom apartments for families.

The Victoria Beachcomber, 4 stars, is located 20 mn from Grand Baie, on the northwest side of the island, in front of a beautiful and long beach. The rooms are very spacious (start at 50m2) and all have a sea view.

THE LUXURY HOTELS

The Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & SPA, 5 stars, is located on the side of Morne Hill, in the south of the island, which provides an incredible view. There are family suites and 4-bedroom villas with private pools. Ideal for families with teenagers who like the wind, as the resort has a kite school

The 5-star Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & SPA is at the foot of Morne Hill and has a wonderful view (this is the cover photo of the article) and is next to the previous hotel. Visitors can even enjoy the facilities and golf courses of both. There are also private concierge villas here, but they don’t have the individual pools.

The 5-star Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & SPA is located on the most beautiful beach on the island, 8 km from Grand Baie. It is the Hotel that has the best and most complete structure for the whole family, from large suites or villas with swimming pools. It also has a PADI diving center

The 5-star Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury is part of the Leading Hotels of the World. It has a private beach and is located next to the lively village of Grand Baie, in the north of the island. For gourmet families looking for intimate settings and personalized services

No need to say anything: we know how difficult it will be to choose a hotel from so many spectacular options! But good luck and have a nice trip! Think you’re going to know Paradise!
