Travel without leaving your home

For those who are passionate about travel, a book is always an attraction: a new itinerary, other adventures, a childhood awakening or a map of the world…

By Sut-Mie Guibert

We have selected 5 books for travel lovers, from youngsters to adults:

No Dia em que Você Nasceu

Ana Busch e Caio Villela, 2011

A fine and poetic book that can be read to small children because it explains the diversity of cultures and countries and everything that can happen at the same time, in the four corners of the world, on the day you were born…

Mapas: uma viagem deslumbrante pelas terras, mares e culturas do mundo

Aleksandra Mizielinska, 2020

An amazing trip around the world. There are 55 maps, with more than 4,000 detailed illustrations, which describe the countries, animals and different cuisines… and which the child must also draw and fill in. Over 36 activities and drawings. A large book, but ideal for the activities of young artists who are curious about maps and countries.

Diário de Pilar na Amazônia

Flávia Lins e Silva, 2019

An already famous collection, where the imaginative girl Pilar, accompanied by her cat Samba and her friend Breno, discover destinations with each new book. Through a spin in her magic hammock, they meet in different places. Taking advantage of our cover story The Amazon: An Itinerary through a Giant World, we suggest reading ‘Pilar Goes to the Amazon,’ where the group discover the Amazon River, the secrets of the Enchanted Forest, go canoeing, sleep in hammocks, eat fish with açaí and live in a stilt house. All this, while thinking about how to save the trees and preserve the forest, the lungs of the world. Adventure and environmental awareness for our pre-teen readers.

Amazônia

Sebastião Salgado, 2021

One of the most renowned Brazilian photographers photographed the largest tropical forest on the planet for 6 years; the forest, the rivers, the villages and the indigenous tribes that inhabit the region.
These images are a testament to what still exists, before it disappears any further. In order for life and nature to overcome destruction and depletion, all human beings, in all the planet, must participate in its protection,” said Sebastião Salgado, in a post on Instagram.

200 photographic panels from the book were exhibited in Paris, London and Rome in 2021. They have been on display at SESC Pompéia, in São Paulo, since February this year.

Volta ao Mundo: um guia irreverente Anthony Bourdain, 2021

Anthony Bourdain was a tireless traveler, chef, writer and American television presenter. He passed away in 2018, but Laurie Woolever, his longtime collaborator and friend, manages to offer in this fun, practical and objective travel guide, a taste of the places selected by Bourdain’s affective memory, using his tips and always irreverent declarations, taken from thousands of hours of his trips recorded on video.
