The convenience of the Wise card for multi-currency travel

See how nowadays we no longer need to worry about currency exchange and carrying different currencies during the trip.

By Editorial Team

Traveling through Eastern Europe on a school trip was an experience that captivated my teenage daughter with its rich history during World War II, diverse cultures, castles, churches, and stunning landscapes. However, as parents, we were concerned about the challenge of the young ones dealing with different currencies in neighboring countries. To overcome this barrier, we turned to the Wise debit card and automatic currency exchange, and we share how facing this journey with financial ease and convenience was like

The Wise debit and currency exchange card

To facilitate various financial transactions in each country, the group chose to use the Wise debit card. This innovative card has some competitors (C6 Bank, Nomad, Inter…), but it’s the only one that allows loading funds in over 50 currencies (which was necessary for this trip) and automatically converting the required amount into the local currency when making a purchase or withdrawal. Moreover, everything is very convenient through a mobile app, which is quite intuitive. While the physical card didn’t arrive right away (it took about 3 days), we were able to use the virtual card here in Brazil as well, just like a debit card. It’s also possible to configure card preferences (like disabling contactless payment, for example) at your fingertips. Having multiple different currencies in the account right from home was incredibly practical. With a fair and transparent exchange rate, the Wise card proved to be an essential tool on this multi-currency journey.

Journey through various countries of Eastern Europe

  1. Netherlands – Euro (EUR): They arrived and departed from Amsterdam, where they visited the Van Gogh Museum.
  2. Austria – Euro (EUR): Next, their first stop was in Vienna, the capital of Austria. As the country is part of the European Community, they only needed to exchange their Brazilian Reais for Euros, buying currency online.

  3. Hungary – Hungarian Forint (HUF): Budapest welcomed them with its stunning architecture and thermal baths. They took advantage of the flexibility of their card to immerse themselves in Hungarian culture without needing to exchange money at currency exchange offices.

  4. Czech Republic – Czech Crown (CZK): Upon arriving in Prague, they were amazed by the medieval castle and cobblestone streets. The Wise card made the experience easy, allowing them to try all the local delicacies without financial complications.

  5. Poland – Polish Złoty (PLN): They visited Krakow, Auschwitz, and Warsaw, encountering a somber part of history that left a profound impact on them.

  6. Germany – Euro (EUR): They concluded their journey in historic Berlin, where they saw the Wall and the Brandenburg Gate. The Wise card ensured that expenses were managed efficiently. By accessing the app, the parents could monitor the expenses.

In addition to money, we also remember travel insurance (required for Europe) and a cell phone chip. The journey through Eastern Europe with the Wise card illustrated how technology can make multi-currency travel more convenient and enjoyable. With the ability to load multiple currencies and convert instantly, they were able to explore each country without worrying about monetary issues and without having to stop and search for currency exchange offices. It’s impressive how financial innovation is transforming the way travelers face currency challenges, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: experiencing the wonders and beauties of the journey.
