Pousada Lagoa do Cassange, a sustainable paradise in Bahia
For family vacations with relaxation and purpose, this inn sets the example in ecological and sustainable practices both inside and outside the hotel.

There’s much talk about sustainable and social tourism, but when we encounter a true example, it’s worth highlighting. Such is the case with Pousada Lagoa do Cassange, in the Maraú Peninsula, Bahia. Nestled between Lagoa do Cassange and the beach of the same name, with natural pools at low tide, it’s a true paradise for families, starting with the abundant nature, the various individual chalets, the organic food, all accompanied by a variety of activities, including social tourism in the region. A way to relax, have fun, create lasting memories, and impart principles to children to transform generations.
A eco-conscious and sustainable Inn
The Lagoa do Cassange Inn can truly serve as an example for tourism actors who wish to undergo this mindset transformation, as the initiatives adopted are numerous and quite comprehensive!
The inn occupies less than 5% of its area with constructions, valuing and preserving the native forest, green spaces, and creating shelters for local fauna and flora;
They generate 100% of the electricity used with solar energy and heat bath water with solar heaters;
All organic material is transformed into compost to nourish the vegetable gardens, gardens, agroforestry, and feed the chickens which, in return, provide delicious free-range eggs;
Effluents are treated with biodigesters, which feed green septic tanks, thus protecting the groundwater and producing bananas;
All bath amenities are natural, biodegradable, and produced on-site at the inn;
The food served is always fresh and organic, sourced from local producers;
Furthermore, in social terms, all employees are local residents;
And the Inn is the originator and maintains the MarAmar community school project, which provides education for children and youth from the Saleiro community. A beautiful initiative that can and should be visited, thus promoting social tourism, which we discuss in our “Traveling for Good,” and deserves a separate post.
Privacy and Relaxation
There are 14 bungalows and suites, spread across a 50,000 m² area, thus providing ample privacy for everyone. There are standalone suites for couples, but the coolest option for families is the bungalows, which can accommodate up to 5 people, making it an excellent choice for large families: whether it’s the bungalows nestled amidst the coconut grove or the beachfront bungalows, facing the sea. All come with split air conditioning, solar heater, garden with hammock, minibar, digital safe, and even free Wi-Fi for teenagers who can’t handle too much tranquility at the end of the day.
For multigenerational families who enjoy traveling together, the inn also offers the “Artist’s House,” a 230 m² space, more secluded in a tropical garden, facing the sea, with 2 suites, a living room, American kitchen, and all housekeeping services and breakfast included. It’s a way to enjoy all this paradise and excursions as if it were your own beach house.

Fun amidst abundant nature
Surrounded by so much nature, the family will have plenty of options to spend their time: enjoying the beach for walks, building sandcastles, biking, or horseback riding. At low tide, they can explore natural pools and go snorkeling. During high tide, they can catch waves and play with bodyboards. There are some trails leading to Lagoa do Cassange, where they can go stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and swim in the river.
The Inn also offers other tours, such as visits to the natural pools of Taipu de Fora or Baía de Camamu with the Tremembé waterfall. But perhaps the most interesting activity for families is the eco-social tour, visiting the MarAmar school, the neighboring Saleiro community, and ending with artisanal cocoa ice cream made by one of the inn’s collaborators.
With all of this, a vacation at Pousada Lagoa do Cassange means relaxation and fun, but also awakening the family’s environmental consciousness and children, visiting various local biomes and observing how they are preserved. It also involves social awareness, visiting the reality of other children. It’s a complete package of leisure and socio-environmental education, right in the style that we love here at Family Trip Magazine.
