The Maldives are known for their white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and stunning coral reefs. Although it is a destination often associated with honeymooning couples, the Maldives also offer an incredible experience for families. If you are looking for unforgettable family vacations, this article is for you. Let’s explore how you can make the most of your trip to the Maldives, starting from Dubai or Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai or Abu Dhabi as a starting point?

When planning your family vacation in the Maldives, you can choose to start your journey in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Dubai is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, famous for its modern and luxurious attractions. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the country and is filled with new attractions in a more serene atmosphere. Both options have their advantages, so it’s up to you to decide which better suits the needs and preferences of your family.

Exploring Dubai with Kid

Dubai is a paradise for families (as we’ve discussed here and here), offering a plethora of attractions and activities for children of all ages. One of the main highlights is the IMG Worlds of Adventure theme park, providing excitement and fun for the whole family. The Wild Wadi Waterpark is also a popular choice, featuring thrilling slides and play areas for younger kids.

Another must-visit attraction is the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, where children can have the unique experience of walking through an underwater tunnel surrounded by sharks and other marine species. Additionally, the Legoland Dubai theme park and Legoland Water Park are irresistible destinations for families with young children who love playing with building blocks. The new Museum of the Future is also a super attraction, not to mention a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper built by man.

Dubai boasts numerous luxury shopping malls, and it’s worth experiencing a stay at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah or Atlantis, the Palm, both featuring aquariums and water parks.

Abu Dhabi and its new attractions

For those who enjoy new experiences, beyond the well-known excursions to the Grand Mosque Sheikh Zayed and Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi now also hosts the new Louvre Museum, which currently features an exhibition dedicated to children, “Picturing the Cosmos,” and the new Sea World park. It’s worth noting that to visit the Grand Mosque, women must have their head, arms, and shoulders covered, and men also cannot wear shorts or tank tops. If needed, the mosque provides a free clothing loan service. At Ferrari World, as well as the new Sea World or Warner Bros park, it’s advisable to plan for at least a full day of exploration, as there are numerous attractions for all ages. And to elevate the experience to the pinnacle of luxury, how about trying a 24-carat gold-adorned Palace Cappuccino with a slice of cake? You can find this at the fantastic Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental.

With so many attractions, it’s easy to spend a delightful 4 days in Abu Dhabi.

Once you’ve thoroughly enjoyed the attractions of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, it’s time to head to the Maldives. There are various flight options to travel from Dubai to the Maldives. Most major airlines offer direct flights to Malé International Airport, the capital of the Maldives. The flight time is approximately 4 hours. The Maldives do not require a visa for Brazilians (a 30-day visa is granted upon arrival) nor a yellow fever vaccine; only a valid passport for 6 months is necessary.

Fun and Relaxation in the Maldives

In the Maldives, you’ll find a plethora of luxurious and paradisiacal resorts that offer a unique experience for families. Many resorts feature kids’ clubs, children’s pools, and a variety of activities to keep the little ones entertained during their stay. Additionally, you can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, diving, boat excursions, and even family surfing lessons.

Among the excellent family resorts in the Maldives are Anantara Dhigu, Niyama Private Islands, and Heritance Aarah-Premium All Inclusive. These resorts provide spacious accommodations, kid-friendly dining options, and a wide range of activities for the entire family. Be sure to book in advance, as these resorts are highly sought after during holiday periods.

Also, remember that traveling with children requires additional planning, especially in a remote destination like the Maldives. It’s important to consider the tropical climate and ensure you have suitable clothing for the heat and sun. Sunscreen, hats, and lightweight clothing are essential to protect children from the sun’s rays. Additionally, keep in mind that the Maldives is an isolated destination, and not all supplies may be readily available. Make sure to bring essentials such as medications, diapers, special baby food, and any other specific items you may need during the trip.
