How it was to travel to Chapada dos Veadeiros with family: a journey of togetherness and unforgettable memories
Interview with Conrado, a father who traveled with his 7-year-old son João, his wife, and friends to Chapada dos Veadeiros
By Claudine Blanco
Chapada dos Veadeiros is a destination that enchants with its natural beauty and cultural diversity. For Conrado’s family, who traveled in July accompanied by another family of friends with a child of the same age, this trip became an opportunity to strengthen bonds and create unforgettable memories. In this interview, father Conrado shares how the experience in Chapada dos Veadeiros brought his family closer together and provided moments of togetherness between parents and children.
Preparations and expectations
Family Trip Magazine: Conrado, how was planning the trip to Chapada dos Veadeiros and what were your expectations before departing?
Conrado: The decision to go to Chapada dos Veadeiros was made together with our friends. We wanted a destination that offered both adventure and tranquility. We researched extensively and chose July for being the best time, with dry weather and pleasant temperatures. Our expectations were high, but what we experienced exceeded everything we imagined.
Adventure and discovery
FTM: Once there, you explored the region by car. How was this experience for the family?
Conrado: Renting a car was essential for our freedom to explore. The feeling of driving through those roads surrounded by stunning landscapes was incredible. Each outing was a new discovery, and the boys loved the sense of adventure. We visited Alto Paraíso and São Jorge, which served as our bases, and from there we took daily trips to waterfalls and other attractions that are really cool for families.
Family togetherness
FTM: You mentioned that the trip strengthened family bonds. Can you tell us about specific moments that were special for you?
Conrado: Absolutely. One of the most remarkable moments was our visit to the Multi-Ethnic Village. These are tribes from all over Brazil that gather at the location once a year. Participating in cultural activities and understanding a bit more about different ethnicities was an enriching experience. Seeing the sparkle in my son’s eyes while learning about those cultures was something I’ll never forget. We also had many moments of togetherness at the waterfalls. Helping the boys cross rivers, swimming together, and exploring trails made us feel more connected as a family.

Unforgettable memories
FTM: What are the most unforgettable memories you and your family took from this trip?
Conrado: There are so many! From the smiles and games at the waterfalls to the starry nights where we told stories and laughed together. The exuberant nature of the Chapada provided us with moments of peace and reflection that reinforced our bond. Each waterfall visited and each trail walked are memories we’ll keep forever.
Recommendations
FTM: What attractions there would you recommend for visiting with children?
Conrado: Oh, there’s no shortage of attractions that please children there! There are many short and easy trails, very accessible, that lead to beautiful waterfalls.
The Loquinhas are a set of several small waterfalls and natural pools, with waters in a surreal shade of green. Since the waterfalls are gentle and the trail path is made of wooden decks with safety ropes, it’s super safe for little ones to have fun more freely.
Cachoeira dos Cristais is also guaranteed success with children. There are various pools and waterfalls for bathing, with shallow areas and rocks where you can sit, as if you were in a natural jacuzzi.
Another super easy waterfall to reach, with infrastructure, is Poço Encantado, a natural pool surrounded by rock formations, full of little fish. Around it there’s sand, forming a little beach, so you can relax there all day if the family wants.
There are also nice little beaches at the Meeting of Waters of the São Miguel and Tocantinzinho rivers, where the landscape is beautiful and very inviting for a picnic.
There are also farms in the region that are great for lunch and spending the day. Some have delicious restaurants where you can try local dishes after a dip in the property’s waterfalls.
As I already mentioned, but it’s worth repeating, the Multi-Ethnic Village is an unmissable cultural tour that really broadens children’s worldview, showing the diversity of indigenous cultures.
And of course, you can’t forget Vale da Lua, with its unique rock formations and natural pools that seem from another planet. Children are fascinated and love exploring every corner. In short, it’s undoubtedly a trip that provides natural beauty and lots of fun for the whole family, generating eternal memories.
Reflections
FTM: What advice would you give to other families thinking about traveling to Chapada dos Veadeiros?
Conrado: Plan well, choose the right time, and be ready to disconnect from the digital world to truly connect with nature and each other. Chapada dos Veadeiros is a destination that provides not only adventure but also moments of introspection and family unity. And most importantly, enjoy every moment together – these memories are an invaluable treasure.
